Dengue cases continue to rise in Punjab, with 61 new patients confirmed in the last 24 hours, according to the provincial health department, pushing the overall tally to 1,618.
Lahore reported 15 fresh cases, bringing its total to 290, while Rawalpindi recorded 29 new cases, raising its count to 756.
Dengue, caused by the bite of infected Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, usually spreads during the day.
Symptoms range from high fever, headaches, and muscle pain to nausea, vomiting, rashes, and mild bleeding.
Severe forms, such as dengue hemorrhagic fever or shock syndrome, can be life-threatening without timely treatment.
These outbreaks occur almost every year, particularly in and after the monsoon season, when stagnant water provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Major cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Peshawar, often see sharp spikes in cases during this period.
Authorities have advised citizens to eliminate standing water, use repellents, and take preventive steps to reduce the spread of the virus.
