ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to launch a National Artificial Intelligence Fund (NAIF) to promote technological growth in Pakistan, as per the report.
As per official documents, 30 percent of Ignite’s Research and Development budget will be set aside for NAIF to help drive progress in artificial intelligence.
The main aim of this fund is to back advanced AI technologies and support their practical development.
As part of this plan, the government intends to open a series of Centers of Excellence in cities like Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore to serve as innovation hubs for AI.
In addition to these centers, proposals are in place to introduce both an Innovation Fund and a Venture Fund to help support new ideas and private-sector growth in artificial intelligence.
To raise awareness and develop skills, the government is also launching the National AI Skill Development Program.
This initiative will bring together the Ministry of Education and Training, provincial authorities, and private institutions to offer AI training, with a goal of preparing 200,000 individuals every year through joint efforts.
Alongside that, a National High-Tech Internship Program will be rolled out nationwide to give students and young professionals hands-on experience in AI and related sectors.
Earlier this year, the Federal Cabinet gave its full approval to the National AI Policy 2025, which sets out a roadmap for building a full AI ecosystem in Pakistan.
This policy is focused on expanding access to AI tools, improving public services, and unlocking opportunities for innovation and employment.
“Our youth are Pakistan’s greatest asset. Providing them with education, skills, and equal opportunities in AI is a top priority,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The policy also sets ambitious goals such as training one million AI professionals by 2030, launching 50,000 civic projects powered by AI, and developing 1,000 local AI-based products within the next five years.
