Admissions to government nursing colleges in Punjab are seeing a stronger response than private medical colleges this year. The merit for nursing seats has crossed 83 percent, while merit in private MBBS colleges has dropped to nearly 60 percent.

Around 6,100 seats are available in government nursing colleges, drawing a large number of applicants. Many students are now opting for nursing instead of pursuing costly medical degrees at private institutions.

On the other hand, private medical colleges have offered 5,150 MBBS seats. Education experts believe that the high fee structure of private colleges has pushed students toward more affordable government nursing programs.

The admission committee has extended the deadline for private MBBS admissions until February 28, while BDS admissions will remain open until March 15. Officials have made it clear that no further extensions will be granted, calling this the final chance for candidates to secure vacant seats in private medical and dental colleges.

Even with the extended deadlines, interest in government institutions remains higher. Private colleges are still facing difficulty in filling their seats. The Pakistan Dental and Medical Council has provided multiple opportunities for admissions, but several seats continue to remain vacant, reflecting the increasing preference for government education.
