KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday forecast rain and thundershowers for Karachi within the next 24 hours as the low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea has strengthened into a Depression.

According to the PMD, most parts of Sindh will experience hot and dry weather, though Karachi, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, and nearby districts could see partly cloudy skies with chances of rain, wind, or thunderstorms.

The system, which developed over the Arabian Sea, is currently located about 440 kilometers south of Karachi, the Met Office said.

It warned of rough sea conditions along Sindh’s coast, with waves rising high and winds expected between 45 to 55 kilometers per hour.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the deep sea until October 3, while deputy commissioners and local administrations have been directed to remain alert and prepared for any emergency.

Officials noted that the country is facing an unusual extension of the monsoon season as two major systems, one from the Arabian Sea and the other from the Bay of Bengal, are converging, raising the risk of widespread rains, thunderstorms, and potentially cyclone-like conditions.
