Punjab Governor Saleem Haider Khan has vowed to take responsibility for the weddings of nine girls whose dowries were lost in recent floods.

The commitment came after the incident gained attention on social media, prompting the Governor to visit Mohanlal to meet affected families and residents.

During his visit, flood victims showed him their submerged homes and described the losses they had suffered.

Expressing deep sorrow over the destruction caused by heavy rains and flooding across Punjab, Governor Saleem Haider Khan said, “Homes have been destroyed, belongings washed away, and people are forced to seek shelter in graveyards. Seeing this suffering, I have lost sleep.”

He announced that flood-hit families would receive three meals a day, and the Red Crescent would set up medical camps in the area. Tents would also be arranged for displaced residents in Mohanlal.

The Governor emphasized that this is a moment for humanitarian action rather than politics. “We must rise above political differences and focus on helping those in need,” he added.

Flood victims, however, complained that they had received no government support so far, including food, medical aid, or shelter, and had been left to manage on their own in the aftermath of the disaster.
