LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has rerouted several major train services in Punjab due to the ongoing flooding, aiming to ensure passenger safety and maintain uninterrupted operations.
Trains that were scheduled to travel via Faisalabad to Karachi will now go through Lahore and Sahiwal. The affected services include Pakistan Express, Millat Express, Karakoram Express, and Hazara Express.
Railway authorities said the changes are precautionary, responding to the flood threat from the Ravi River, and advised passengers to follow official Pakistan Railways announcements for updates on schedules and routes.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported extremely high flood levels in the Ravi River at Head Sidhnai, with upstream flow at 168 cusecs.
The Director General of PDMA Punjab said controlled breaching has been carried out at Head Sidhnai to protect major urban centers and critical infrastructure.
He added that two breaches were made at the Mai Safforan bund to prevent large-scale damage. At the same time, water levels in the Chenab River continue to rise, recording 384,000 cusecs at Head Marala.
