The federal government has announced a public holiday on Saturday, September 6, 2025, to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabiul Awwal), according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.

The decision follows the confirmation by the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee last week that the Rabiul Awwal moon had not been sighted, setting Eid Milad-un-Nabi for this Saturday.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi, known in Arabic as Mawlid al-Nabawi, commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and is observed on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

This year, the holiday will also coincide with Pakistan’s 60th Defence Day, observed every year on September 6 to pay tribute to the martyrs and veterans of the 1965 war.

As per the notification, all federal government offices, ministries, and departments will remain closed, while provincial governments are expected to issue similar directives in line with the federal announcement.
