Heatwave expected to intensify next week

Senior meteorologist Muhammad Aslam on Sunday cautioned that temperatures are set to rise further across southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan. He urged people to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity between 10 am and 4 pm, adding that temperatures may increase by another 3 to 4 degrees after May 6.

While speaking to a local media outlet, he noted that hospitals are already seeing more patients affected by heat-related illnesses as temperatures climb.

He advised the public to wear light-colored clothes, limit outdoor movement, and keep their heads covered with a cap or cloth to protect against direct sunlight.

He also recommended drinking plenty of water and natural fluids such as sugarcane juice to stay hydrated during the extreme heat.

The expert stressed avoiding outdoor movement between 10 am and 4 pm, when temperatures are at their highest, particularly for vulnerable groups.

He further said that farmers should take special care of their livestock during the heatwave, ensuring proper shade, water, and protection as temperatures continue to rise after May 6.

Motorists were also advised to be cautious while travelling in extreme heat, keep water with them, avoid unnecessary trips during peak hours, and make sure their vehicles are in good condition.

He emphasized the need to follow instructions issued by local authorities and urged the public to strictly adhere to advisories from the Met Department to stay safe.
