Karachi traffic police have banned intercity buses from entering the city unless they use the designated routes and terminals, and the first e-challan under this rule has already been issued.

The step has created a new challenge for transport operators but is meant to ease traffic congestion and improve public safety. A traffic police spokesperson said that any bus entering Karachi without passing through the approved Sohrab Goth or Karachi Bus Terminal will be penalized.

“Drivers of vehicles violating these rules will face strict legal measures, and repeated offenses will result in additional action,” the spokesperson noted.

Authorities stressed that all intercity buses must operate strictly within the limits of the designated terminals. They added that unauthorized entry not only disrupts traffic flow but also raises the chances of accidents and causes inconvenience for daily commuters.

Transport operators have been instructed to follow traffic laws and ensure that their vehicles use the approved terminals only. Officials warned that continued non-compliance will lead to stronger enforcement, heavier fines, and possible legal proceedings.

The e-challan system is part of Karachi’s broader plan to regulate intercity travel, improve road safety, and reduce congestion. The measures take effect immediately, and bus operators have been urged to cooperate to avoid penalties.
