LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman strongly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan, while also announcing a nationwide protest against Israel’s assault on the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said the plan had “no connection to peace,” arguing that it only guaranteed Israel’s security while sidelining the creation of a Palestinian state.
He denounced the clause calling for Hamas’ disarmament, terming it unlawful. “Hamas is a resistance force defending its land against foreign occupation,” he said, adding that the UN Charter gives oppressed people the right to resist.
“This is not a peace plan, but rather a license to kill more Palestinians,” he remarked.
He also criticized former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who is speculated to have a role in governing Gaza after the conflict, accusing him of complicity in the bloodshed in Iraq.
Expressing dismay over Pakistan’s early acceptance of Trump’s plan, Hafiz Naeem warned, “We will resist every attempt to accept the Abraham Accords and Israel. Accepting this plan would weaken Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir.”
He further condemned Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, announcing protest demonstrations nationwide tomorrow, followed by a major march on October 4.
“The Israeli aggression is destabilizing global peace, and the United States has effectively given Israel a license for genocide,” Hafiz Naeem concluded.
