Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major initiative to provide 50,000 tractors to farmers over the next three years, describing it as the biggest tractor distribution program in Punjab’s history.

She shared the announcement during a meeting of the Punjab Agriculture Department, where officials reviewed the progress of the Kissan Card program along with the government’s agricultural mechanization efforts.

Maryam Nawaz said the government has taken practical measures to strengthen the farming sector and added that no previous administration had distributed tractors on such a large scale.

During the meeting, officials briefed participants that the Punjab government has provided Rs360 billion in interest-free loans through the Kissan Card program. They also reported that farmers have repaid 99 percent of the loans issued so far, while nearly 80 percent of the funds were spent on purchasing fertilizer.

Officials further noted that urea prices have remained stable for the past two and a quarter years. The chief minister said the government will continue launching initiatives aimed at modernizing agriculture, increasing farm productivity, and extending greater support to farmers throughout Punjab.
