The Punjab School Education Department has issued urgent directives to tighten security at all public and private schools across the province. Institutions have been placed on high alert, and district education authorities have been told to strictly enforce safety measures to safeguard students and staff.
Officials have called for closer monitoring of visitors, greater alertness from security personnel, and stronger boundary protection, including high walls and barbed wire where possible. Schools must ensure that CCTV cameras, metal detectors, and panic buttons are working at entry points. Those without trained security guards have been instructed to assign responsible staff to remain on duty at the gates.
Schools have also been directed to follow emergency SOPs, hold practice drills for students and staff, and organize staggered dispersal at the end of the day to reduce crowding. The fresh instructions reinforce earlier advisories, especially in light of concerns that many rural and semi urban schools lack trained staff and proper security arrangements.

As an added precaution, morning assemblies that bring together large groups of students will remain suspended. Section 144 has also been enforced to stop unauthorized gatherings. Head teachers, educators, and monitoring officers have been asked to ensure full compliance with the revised SOPs so that classes continue without disruption while student safety remains protected.
The department stated that these measures are necessary for the wellbeing of students and confirmed that firm implementation and close supervision will continue until further notice.
