LAHORE: Following the instructions of Director General Food Authority Asim Javed, food safety teams stepped up inspections of fish outlets across Punjab.
During the drive, officials checked 54 locations, fined 12 establishments a total of Rs290,000, and issued improvement notices to 25 outlets for not meeting required standards.
Authorities also confiscated over 100 litres of substandard oil and around one maund of stale fish. One outlet was sealed after inspectors discovered it was frying food in repeatedly used oil.
Asim Javed said the inspections were carried out due to poor hygiene, missing mandatory documentation, and the practice of mixing fresh oil with previously used oil. He added that reusing cooking oil is a serious violation and poses significant health risks, including the potential for dangerous diseases.
