Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange as OGDC, has discovered a new oil reserve at the Chakar-1 exploratory well located in the Tando Allah Yar district of Sindh.

This discovery was made under the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License, where OGDCL holds a 95 percent operational stake, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited holds the remaining 5 percent as a carried-interest partner.

As per the company’s stock exchange filing, drilling at Chakar-1 started on June 2, 2025, reaching a depth of 1,926 meters into the Upper Shale section of the Lower Goru Formation.

Using data from wireline log readings and Reservoir Evaluation Services, a Drill Stem Test was carried out in the B-Sand layer. This was followed by testing with an Electrical Submersible Pump.

The well produced oil at a rate of 275 barrels per day through a 32 over 64-inch choke, with surface pressure at 400 psi. Additionally, oil was also detected in the Lower Ranikot Formation during formation testing by RES.

A second round of testing using an ESP is currently in progress to further assess the oil potential in that zone.
