The federal government has raised fuel prices, increasing petrol by Rs8.36 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs10.39 per litre, as per a notification issued by the Finance Division late Monday night.

Following this adjustment, petrol now costs Rs266.79 per litre (up from Rs258.43), and HSD stands at Rs272.98 per litre (previously Rs262.59). The revised rates took effect immediately on July 1.

According to officials, the decision was based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries, who cited volatility in global oil prices as the primary reason behind the increase.

Fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed every two weeks, taking into account fluctuations in the international market and changes in the rupee-dollar exchange rate.

This hike follows a previous increase on June 15, when the government raised petrol prices by Rs4.80 and HSD by Rs7.95 per litre.

Meanwhile, OGRA has also issued an official notice for a sharp increase in natural gas prices across various consumer categories, also effective from July 1, 2025.

For household consumers, the new gas tariffs range from Rs200 to Rs4,200 per MMBTU, depending on usage.

Additional fixed monthly charges have also been introduced, Rs600 for protected consumers and Rs1,500 to Rs3,000 for non-protected categories.

These revisions come amid ongoing inflation concerns and are expected to further strain household budgets across the country.
