The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Karachi and other parts of Sindh, warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and possible hailstorms starting tomorrow.

According to the Met Office, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the southwestern areas of Balochistan today and will begin affecting weather conditions across the region.

The PMD said Karachi could receive 50mm or more rainfall along with winds exceeding 50kph. Rain in the city is likely to start on the night of April 1.

Due to this system, rainfall is expected in Karachi as well as Jamshoro, Dadu, Larkana and Qambar Shahdadkot from today until April 4.

Karachi may see light rain or drizzle today, while heavier thunderstorms are expected on Thursday.

Under the system’s influence, some areas may get moderate rainfall, while others could experience heavy showers and even hailstorms.

Rain has also been forecast for Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Matiari, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta and Hyderabad, along with other parts of Sindh.

Authorities have warned that strong winds, lightning and hail could damage electricity poles, solar panels, billboards and crops. People have been advised to take necessary precautions during this period.

Meteorologists say the weather system is likely to strengthen from today, bringing cloud cover, gusty winds and intermittent rain to different areas of the province.

The effects are expected to be more noticeable in major cities, particularly Karachi, where sudden downpours may occur due to changing weather patterns.

In Karachi, March and April usually mark the shift from mild winter to the start of summer. By April, temperatures rise further and humidity increases, making the weather feel hotter and less stable.

Rain in March and especially April is not common in Karachi, but it does happen occasionally. Since these months fall outside the monsoon season, any rainfall is usually caused by western weather systems moving through southern Pakistan.

When these systems combine with higher temperatures and moisture in the air, they can lead to sudden thunderstorms, short but heavy rain spells, and, at times hail.
