Sindh govt announces public holiday on April 17

The Sindh government has declared Wednesday, April 17, a public holiday in Umerkot district to make it easier for residents to cast their votes in the upcoming by-election for National Assembly seat NA-213.

A notification from the Services, General Administration and Coordination Department confirmed the holiday, stating it aims to support the voting process and boost public participation.

The by-election was triggered by the passing of seasoned Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, who had secured the seat in the February 2024 general elections.

Polling is set to take place on April 17, as announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan. Local authorities are working closely with election staff to ensure everything goes smoothly on the day.

Umerkot has traditionally been a stronghold for the PPP, making this constituency particularly significant for the party’s presence in the region.
