IG Sindh announces zero tolerance for helmet violators in Karachi

Sindh Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon announced a significant reduction in traffic violations and street crimes across the province. Speaking to the media, the Inspector General revealed that motorcyclists riding without helmets will now face strict penalties.

The penalties include immediate confinement of their vehicles. “We’re taking a zero-tolerance approach to helmet violations,” Memon stated. “Bikes will only be released when riders provide proper safety gear.”

The police chief reported significant progress in fighting street crime. A total of 400 suspected robbers were arrested in recent operations. To strengthen law enforcement capabilities, Memon announced plans to induct over 1,000 new investigation officers.

These officers will serve as Assistant Sub-Inspectors. This move is expected to boost the force’s investigative capacity to a new level. Addressing police accountability, the IG insisted that officers involved in criminal activities won’t be spared.

“We’ve registered cases against several personnel, and legal proceedings are actively underway,” he said. The rules highlight the department’s commitment to wiping out misconduct from the land.

The announcements are part of a broader effort to enhance public safety. The measures include stricter traffic enforcement, enhanced anti-crime measures, and internal reforms within the police force.

Memon says that while officers are trained to maintain a public-friendly approach, safety and the rule of law must be top priorities.
